One form of wall art for kids has quickly become one of the most popular and just so happens to be one of the most personal, too. Hanging wall letters are a great way to make your child’s room really feel like their own special space by proudly displaying their initials, full name or even just the first letter of their name on the wall. Many artists devote themselves to only creating hanging wall letters, and because of this you have a ridiculous amount of options to choose from.
These wall letters are available in multiple fonts, colors, patterns and sizes. You can choose between wood or metal, tiles or canvas and details like with or without ribbon, framed or with a letter stand - the choices are endless. There are even some artists who give you total creative freedom and will paint whatever style or pattern you want - even matching your child’s bedding! With so many types of hanging letters available, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, but if we break down the different options available to you and the differences between them, you will be able to choose the right hanging wall letters that you and your child will treasure for years.
Wooden Hanging Letters
These are typically the most versatile and can be customized to your specific needs and wants. Multiple sizes and fonts and of course the patterns can even be created by you, making these truly the most personalized form of wall art. You usually have the option to have hanging ribbon included as well, but make sure the letters you choose offer that option - others will simply have a sawtooth hanger or drill hole in the back for hanging. There are artists who even offer stands as an alternative way to display your letters which is a fun option to have. Another type of wooden hanging letter option is an initial framed on top of a fabric background – a great vintage look yet still fresh and new.
Metal Hanging Letters
This style of hanging letters offer less options for customization, however they also give you a completely different look. These are great for anyone who has iron furniture or enjoys the look of something with a little glitz and glam without being over the top. I also think that the metal hanging letters are something that can be passed down for generations making them truly heirloom pieces that can be appreciated by you now and cherished by your child as he or she grows. Rosenberry Rooms offers a line of metal hanging letters that have genuine Swarovski crystals imbedded in them but also offer you the option to keep them plain and without crystals.
Tile Hanging Letters
These ceramic tiles are another alternative to hanging wall letters for you. Typically you can customize the colors and patterns just like with wooden hanging letters, however you do not have the options to choose different sizes. Hand-painted name tiles hang from a coordinating ribbon and come in many fun and whimsical styles but artists are also willing to do custom work if you request it. These are also great for when you have a smaller space to fill and want a stand out piece of wall art.
Canvas Hanging Letters
Canvas hanging letters are like mini pieces of artwork for each letter of your child’s name and delicately finished with a ribbon for hanging. Hand painted pieces of canvas in amazing patterns or in a pattern that you choose make these a fun alternative to the hanging wall letter. For this particular style, it is popular to order them in monogram form – a little twist which I think makes them that much more interesting.
Whichever type of hanging wall letter you choose to go with, you will be choosing an amazing and beautiful piece of kids art for your child’s room. Once you decide on what type of wall letter you like, you will have a much easier time planning out all the details. I have some examples below of these different types of wall letters that can be found on RosenberryRooms.com.

Deciding on what type of kids furniture is a big decision and one that many parents (usually moms!) spend many hours mulling over. Let’s be honest – it is one of the bigger purchases you will make and there are so many things to think of that at times it can seem overwhelming. In order to hopefully make the decision process a little bit easier, I will list some of the things that you should take into consideration prior to making your purchase. Your home is a reflection of your personal style, and furniture is the large part of that. Every other piece of décor will flow from the large pieces that you choose, and so there are many factors to take into consideration. Here are some of the things that I have often discussed with customers who are looking for direction when it comes to purchasing childrens furniture pieces…
1. Price Point
I put this first, because it is I think the most important factor. If you know that you can only spend x amount of dollars on a bedroom set, then you need to stick to that. This is a great way to trim down the list of options and allows you to focus on kids furniture pieces that are actually feasible for you to buy. Don’t feel that if you don’t spend more, you will not get good furniture. On the contrary, there are many affordable quality pieces of children’s furniture that you will be able to choose from, so be honest with your price range.
2. Timeline
How quickly do you need these pieces? Is your baby due next week or are you pre-planning by 6 or 7 months? Are you looking to transfer your toddler into their big kid room as soon as possible or do you need to have it completed before you bring baby home (which happens to be next week!)? All of these questions should also be answered honestly as the question above. Manufacturers have different completion times (the time it takes from placing the order to the ship date) and don’t forget there is the actual transit time. We would all love to have our children’s furnishings the day after we finally make our decisions, however that isn’t possible or even practical. Once you decide what your decorating timeline is, you have successfully narrowed down your options yet again, which is a good thing.
3. Type of Furniture: Wood or Iron
This decision is usually the easiest. Wood and iron furniture pieces have completely different looks that either appeal to you or they don’t. Wood furniture is the most common choice because of the multiple styles and color options that are available especially for children’s bedroom sets. If you happen to still have this decision up in the air, keep in mind that iron furniture will be a bit more pricey and typically is going to be custom made, meaning there is a longer completion time involved. One of the unspoken perks of kids iron furniture is its durability – it can withstand years of use and abuse by your kids and still look just as amazing as the day you purchased it.
4. Purpose of Furniture
This last point is a little bit more thought-provoking than the others because it really is the most personal. Is this children’s furniture set for just one child, or do you have other children that you want to be able to pass it down to? Do you need the furniture to be gender neutral or can you lean towards a more feminine or masculine furniture set? Will any of these kids furniture pieces eventually be used in a guest room? All of these questions together will give you your style boundaries when it comes to selecting the perfect kid’s furniture pieces – style, color, functionality.
If you take all of these questions into consideration before you start to shop for your kids furniture you will have a much easier time making your decision and really focus on the furniture pieces that fit your personal needs. Always remember that once you have your “purchasing outline” you can utilize the knowledge that sales reps have regarding the furniture that they sell. Now isn’t that easy?
Here are some of RosenberryRooms.com furniture pieces for your child’s nursery or bedroom that vary in price point, timeline, type and functionality.

Your child’s room is finally in place. You carefully chose the furniture pieces, bedding and lighting but are now staring at wall space. A lot of wall space, just begging for fun and unique pieces of kid’s art to adorn it. Thus begins the hunt. Your mind may be overwhelmed with all of your options: customized hanging letters, canvas reproductions, framed art, wall murals…oh what to choose?! Often the difficulty comes simply because we think that whatever kids art we choose has to be a permanent fixture in their room. This is true for most art that you will purchase (like the ones I mentioned above), however I want to talk about another form of kids art that is becoming more and more popular because of its changeability: Wall Stickers. No, these are not the ones that make it out of your child’s activity book and find themselves haphazardly stuck to their wall, or door, or bed post. These are the kind you WANT to be on the wall. They are created for that purpose and can be easily removed and even reused several times.
Okay, so you are still not convinced – I mean, after all you have said more times than can be remembered not to put stickers on the walls, and here I am telling you this is the way to go! You probably also are feeling that the quality of wall art that you want to hang in your child’s room is a level or two above anything that may come in sticker form. I hopefully will be able to change your mind with this entry after I explain a bit more and give you some examples of great wall stickers that are sure to make you do a double take.
I have been lucky to work at Rosenberry Rooms for just over three years and I do think they have one of the greatest selections of kids art that you can find. Having said that, I have seen every new artist and manufacturer that has come on board and what I find interesting is that wall stickers have gained popularity within the last couple of years. I think the reason is pretty obvious – you can decorate your child’s room with art that is removable and reusable. This is a perfect solution if you want to add a little something to the walls, but you know the room’s purpose will be changing – decorate now and then simply remove later. And, if you have a very special child who likes to change up their room every few months or so (like I did), then wall stickers are great because they have the option to rearrange the image several times. But, I think that the best part of incorporating wall stickers into your kid’s room is how many options you actually have. Everything from photo cut-outs of animals, whimsical dots, frames, various boarders, the alphabet, sports scenes, and even growth charts is available in wall sticker form.
Wall stickers are a great way to really personalize your child’s space because you can focus on exactly what they are passionate about when they are passionate about it. When that changes (which it will), you just change out the art. There is something to be said about art that can be changed out as quickly as your child’s “passion of the week”. Thus, wall stickers are often a more reasonable piece of kids art to purchase rather than a canvas reproduction, mural banner, or even framed art which (in my opinion) are more of a long-term decision.
Now on to the fun part! I get to show you some great examples of wall stickers that can be found onRosenberryRooms.com.
Chocolate Lab
Grazing Buddies
Girl Lacrosse
Wallpockets Blue
Fairy Princess Growth Chart
ChalkBoarder
Dottilicious
I hope that now you will consider wall stickers when you start to shop for kid’s art. Remember that wall art is only one form of kid’s décor, so make sure you check out the fantastic selection of kids rugs, clocks, lighting fixtures, and well, just about everything else you may need for your child on RosenberryRooms.com!

Decorating for your child is where you can really let loose and have some fun. There are so many amazing products that are available in almost any theme you can think of. If you are open to something a little “different” you will create a room that your child will always remember. I want to list a few options for themed kid’s rooms that I think are exciting both to look at and to put together. They are what could be considered sub-categories of common themes…but sometimes by taking just one part of a theme, you create something truly unique.
1. Nature – Birds
This is personally a favorite of mine. There is something about birds that is so happy and peaceful…I think they have a perfect place in décor especially for children. They represent nature in a most calming and melodious way. Today’s décor gives you a range of possibilities in this specific theme that are sure to catch your eye as you begin decorating a perfect nursery or bedroom for your child. Here are some of the best pieces for a bird themed room in my opinion.
Bedding: Wren; Bird’s Nest
Art: Oopsy Daisy; MaryJack Studios; Dwell
Décor: Bird Bank; Nightlight; Lamp
2. Western – Cowboy / Cowgirl
The western theme is actually very commonly used when decorating for your child. Let’s narrow it down just a bit into specifically cowboy and cowgirl themed rooms focusing on the print itself and see what happens. First of all not everyone wants to open the door to their child’s room and feel as if they stumbled onto the set of Tombstone, but by focusing on just one aspect we get a sophisticated and livable version. There is something beautifully rugged and simple about cow print fabric, and when you add that touch of pink for a girl or blue for a boy, who can resist? This is also great for the person who loves to keep a room simple in style – by adding a cow print throw to a solid cream duvet you have completely transformed the entire look of the room without much effort.
Fabric: Doodlefish; New Arrivals
Wish Upon A Star Décor: Doorhanger; Frame; Wall Peg; Bookends
Other Decor:Clock; Wall Letters; Iron Bed
3. Alphabet – Your Child’s Initial(s)
Choose pieces of décor that start with your child’s initial – like a page out of the ABC book by Alison Jay. This book is one of the favorites in our house because all the images are so visually appealing and intriguing. For each letter of the alphabet there is the obvious image (c – cow; b – balloon, etc.) but then as you look further you notice all the details (a car, cabbage field, cat, chickens) that are part of the scene. I know it may sound silly, but think about it for a moment, and hopefully you will see it as I do. Let’s say your child’s name starts with a “K”. In decorating their room, you look for pieces of décor that incorporate things such as kites, kangaroos, keys, knitting, kittens. Think of the possibilities! Decorating your child’s room this way would definitely make every item for your child’s room truly special. Yes, it may take a little more time for you to complete the room, but for the person who loves a challenge, this provides one. It is also a good way to start decorating especially when you are overwhelmed with all the possibilities that are available. How fun will it be when your child grows and starts to realize the correlation of everything that surrounds them? Here are a few art pieces that would work out great…
K – Kite
M –Monkey
B – Balloon
F – Fish
W – Dragonfly

Rhonda's Retreat Panel Bed
Organization is something that I love. I am not sure if this was a natural personality trait or if it was so engrained into me as a child that it has become second-nature. I have to have everything in its place, and when I scan the room (I am always scanning a room) and see that naked doll lying on the floor next to the couch, I cannot be at peace until she rests fully clothed, comfortably and properly in her high chair. Some would consider this to be a flaw, but for me, it is a way of life. Sometimes I wish I could loosen-up in this regard, but after many failed attempts I have come to terms that I am happier when everything is in its place, so why fight it? Of course keeping organized really becomes more of a challenge once you bring children into the picture because when they are born, they bring with them an unexplainable ability to make everything they touch multiply. Seriously. Toys, dvds, dolls, rattles, pacifiers – they grow in numbers. Rapidly. And sometimes by the hour. Until one day you look around and realize that the color scheme of your home has become primary colors, flashing lights, hundreds of pieces that will never be put back together in one place to make a whole game again, and sounds…oh, so many sounds.
When this happens we have a couple of options. We can succumb to our fate of living in Fisher Price world for the next oh 10-15 years; we can teach our kids a lesson in giving and gather every last thing and tote it to Good Will; or, we can compromise. I am sure you all chose to compromise, which is a good thing…now what does that mean exactly? Well, to put it simply - Time to ORGANIZE!
Organization is something that I believe comes naturally to some and not so much to others. When you don’t necessarily enjoy or know how to bring order to your space, then what? This is where you shop. Oh boy, another favorite hobby of mine…this is great! Seriously though - you shop for pieces of décor that have storage built right into them. And for this, the possibilities are pretty much endless. The obvious ones like a toy box, shelving, bookholder, bins and even step stools with storage are all great (and should be incorporated into your décor), but lets not stop there. We should look “outside the box” if you will and think on a much larger scale – your child’s bed. I want to bring to your attention some of the not-so-obvious storage and organizational solutions that are literally built right in to your child’s bed. Gone are the days of the simple bed frame. The here and now of kids beds will not only amaze you but make you stop and think – wow, that was a really good idea why didn’t I think of it? Now, on to these amazing beds…
1. Bed with Trundle / Super Trundle / Captain’s Storage
Okay, so this one is probably the least surprising on my list, but it should still be mentioned. Most beds come with the option of a trundle. You may pass on that given that you don’t really need the extra sleep space, but think again. A box trundle serves the purpose of not only holding a mattress but allow for extra under the bed storage for blankets, sheets, even off-season clothing. And the best part is that it is all nicely tucked away under the bed for no ones eyes but yours. Many trundles will come with dividers so that you can organize further until (and if) you need the space for a mattress…a simple and yet very practical way of adding organization to your child’s room. If your bedding includes a bedskirt, then you don’t even have to look at the trundle at all…just an added bonus.
One Manufacturer decided to give you the best of both storage and mattress in what they have termed the super trundle. The unit holds a mattress and below that is a row of three drawers for that much needed extra storage…I think they named it perfectly!
The second part of this would be what is often called a captain’s storage unit. This is a unit that can include a combination of drawers, shelving and cubbies. Although this does not allow for an extra mattress it is typically built in to be more visually appealing as it matches the style and details of the bed and other pieces in that line. Just another way to utilize that “dead space” under your child’s bed for storage and organization.
3. Bookcase Bed
This is exactly what it sounds like…a bookcase built into the structure of the bed – specifically the headboard. Now, you can organize your child’s books, dolls, or other collectibles without having to add another furniture piece into their room. What a great idea especially if space is limited!
4. Loft Bed
Now this is where it gets exciting. Loft beds come in a variety of options – it’s like Baskin Robbins…a flavor to suit every taste. There is the basic loft that creates a study and storage space without taking much more room than a twin bed. You can incorporate two beds into a loft system and there are even options for more than two beds with extensions from certain manufacturers. Bottom line is that someone was really thinking when they created the loft bed. They are utilizing the space above the bed that typically can be considered “dead space” and filling it with shelving, cubbies, memo boards, etc. This is the all-in-one dream bed for anyone longing for organization and storage options. Some of these loft beds are so well-made that there is not a single inch of space that is not being utilized in some way – truly genius.
Explore all of these amazing beds on RosenberryRooms.com as you start on the road to a more organized and peaceful room for you child. I have a few of them right here for you (the ones that impress the most!) but hope that you will take your time and look at all of the options you have. I also threw in a crib with drawer unit – just in case you aren’t quite ready to shop for the big kid bed. So, happy shopping and remember that sometimes the solution is not the most obvious answer!

I recently came across an interesting design article about lighting and it inspired me to write this entry because it touched on some very unique points and one in particular that I want to focus on. I think most of us can agree that lighting sets the mood, tone and overall feel for a room; however what I wasn’t aware of is that it is the most overlooked aspect of design. Let’s think about this for a moment – when planning out the playroom, nursery, or kid’s bedroom the top things on our list are typically the large and “must-have” pieces: crib, table and chair set, area rug, furniture and sometimes art. Rarely does this list include lighting fixtures. Somehow they become an afterthought, the last thing that we add to the completed room. The funny thing is that until we incorporate the proper lighting in a room it will lack that special something.
The lighting tip that really stood out to me was that all well-designed rooms should have multiple kinds of lights for two reasons: visual interest and practicality. Visual interest breaks down pretty simply: a hanging chandelier or pendant light will grab the eye as it travels throughout the room then a floor lamp or accent lamp will bring your eye downward, thus allowing you to take in every aspect of the room. Practicality, because we use our rooms for different things throughout the day and should have lighting to coordinate with these needs. Now lets look at all this in relation to your child’s décor, focusing on children’s bedrooms, playrooms, and nurseries…
Beginning with your child’s bedroom - it really doesn’t make sense to only have a ceiling fixture as the sole source of lighting because this will obviously be too bright when trying to calm your child right before naptime or bedtime. But, you also can’t get them ready in the dark! Here is where adding a floor lamp or accent lamp will offer a much softer glow and not over stimulate your child before climbing into bed. Also, if you are like us and read books as part of the bedtime routine, then accent lighting is just enough to see comfortably and is a great transition before “lights out”. When the lighting is not needed (daytime, for instance) these fixtures act as the accessories to the room. They should highlight the colors and other décor and be the finishing touch much like jewelry is for your outfit. Moving on to the next room…
For playroom lighting, remember the more the better. This is the one room where we need our child to be full of energy so that they can use it up and be nice and tired when bedtime rolls around! Ceiling fixtures are an obvious must – if you are lucky and already have recessed lighting, that is great, but don’t stop there. Accent lighting is just as important. A floor lamp might not be practical in a playroom but wall sconces are great – they will bring the eye upward (and away from the mess of toys!) and will not be knocked over by little hands or feet. Why add sconces since the room is bright enough, you ask? Well, I mentioned visual interest which is so important in design, but also, with accent lighting such as sconces, you have the ability to create little “stations” for certain activities. Now you are no longer staring at a large oversized toy box that we call a playroom, but your child has a place to do arts & crafts, a reading corner, train set area, dress-up station, etc. I find that lighting is just as successful as an area rug when you need to divide a room without walls, and now you have a much more interesting space.
Now, the nursery – ahhh, the place where our littlest one sleeps and sleeps and sleeps (at least, that is what we all hope for!) Obviously lighting needs here are slightly different than for the other rooms in our homes given the minimal activities of a baby. Same as a child’s bedroom, you will want the ceiling fixture for all those daytime diaper changes, sheet changes, rug cleaning, bumper stripping, etc. The accent lighting however for the first few months (at least) can simply be a nightlight. This gives off plenty of light to navigate through the room for nighttime feedings and diaper changes but won’t be bright enough to disrupt your baby’s sleep (it will be your baby’s sheer will to keep you from sleeping that will keep them awake!) As your baby grows and you begin to read to them at night or play a bit before bedtime, introduce a floor or accent lamp which will give you the necessary lighting for these activities without over stimulating them.
Be sure to take all these ideas and shop with RosenberryRooms.com for the perfect lighting you may need for your child’s bedroom, playroom or nursery. There is an amazing selection of children’s lighting to cover all design styles including modern, traditional, whimsical and eclectic. I have a few of my favorites here for you to see (I chose to go with lighting fixtures that represent different design styles, however most of the lighting on RosenberryRooms.com is available in sets so you can have coordinating lighting in the room if you choose): chandelier; table lamp; accent lamp; sconce; nightlight.
While you check out the lighting, be sure to peruse the other kids décor that RosenberryRooms.com has to offer as you create the perfect space for your child. And take your time…there is a lot to look at! Happy decorating!

It is no secret that I love each and every one of the fun and unique products featured on RosenberryRooms.com. I am constantly blown away by the amazing creative work on the part of the talented designers that we are privileged to feature in our store. As it turns out, it is not only our wonderful customers (and me) who appreciate these one of a kind creations, as many of our products have caught the eye of the national media in the recent weeks, as well.

Romantic Homes Magazine featured the Watermelon Pagoda Crib Bedding by Pixie Dust in their special Bedrooms & Baths issue. What makes our bedding designer, Pixie Dust, so unique is that all fabrics in this collection are proprietary designs inspired by classic children’s nursery books, vintage French textiles, and 1960’s collectibles. Matching floor pillows and tuffets make this bedding line truly irresistible!

Speaking of Pixie Dust … the fabulous Pixie Dust Aprons were featured on Parenting.com’s Daily Fave list! Top picks are chosen from Parenting magazine editors, who called these aprons TRES CHIC! I think these aprons are so sweet and make a great birthday or Christmas gift at only $24.00!!

Chicago Parents Magazine just highlighted the Mermaid Performance Mural Banner by artist Jill MacDonald for Oopsy daisy, Fine Art For Kids a few weeks ago. This mural banner (also available as a stretched canvas and growth chart) got rave reviews by Cosmotot, the online blog brought to you by Chicago Parents Magazine! It is no secret that Oopsy Daisy offers the most comprehensive collection of quality fine art on the market today. We were also overwhelmed by the kind words written about Rosenberry Rooms in this review… ” The one-stop-online e-tailer’s shop has an amazing, all-encompassing selection of anything and everything you could possibly need, want, or dream of when decorating your child’s room, including bedding, lighting, rugs, seating, diaper bags, furniture, accessories, and of course, enough art to put the Louvre to shame.”

The Be Spicy Diaper Bag in Mint Julep by Ju-Ju-Be and Moderno Crib Bedding Set by Bebe Chic were just featured in Pregnancy Gear & Style Magazine. This issue of Pregnancy focuses on the best and most stylish new additions to the baby and kids’ world. Ju-Ju-Be is always on the cutting edge of diaper bag design….not only because each Ju-Ju-Be diaper bag has more bells and whistles than most cars, but because their fabrics and baby bag styles fall under the “diaper bags in disguise” category.

Bebe Chic is just a first class line of luxurious baby bedding, and the Moderno bedding set is a great contemporary choice for new moms, with its simple black and white design, with lime accents.
Stay tuned to find out about more great products in the news!

Although you may not immediately think of animal print when decorating for your child, with so many great children’s products available you absolutely can. Zebra print is especially popular today and can easily be incorporated into your child’s bedroom or playroom in the form of a blanket, area rug or a throw pillow. It is a way to add an unexpected touch of wild and is a great conversation piece.
Anyone who knows me would be laughing that I am writing to encourage animal print décor because I have never been a fan. But, I have come around after seeing many designers use animal print with existing décor in a surprisingly tasteful way. As long as it isn’t overdone, and is just a splash here and there, you will definitely make your child’s room stand out (in a good way!). Here are some things to keep in mind when taking a walk on the wild side with your child’s décor…
1. Don’t make every piece in the room matching animal print. Think like a minimalist when incorporating prints and designs that are bold and powerful, that way you avoid visual overload which will only make the room seem small and dated. Consider the room to be like an outfit – head to toe animal print is way over the top but a cream sweater with animal print cuffs is fun and classy.
2. Do take your time to find one key piece of décor that has an animal print you love. This can be an area rug, chandelier shades, a throw pillow or a blanket, but don’t rush into it…when you find the right piece you will know. This way you will add interest to your kid’s room or playroom without distracting from your other pieces.
3. Trends change and so does your taste. By choosing something along the lines of a rug or shades, you are not making a long-term commitment and can easily change or update at any time without much effort if you so desire.
4. Have fun and be daring. Strong and bold design choices such as animal print are daunting because they make such a statement that many times we shy away from them. Don’t be afraid to add that touch of wild…its fun and different and when incorporated into your child’s décor will only make your child’s space a step above ordinary.
If you are thinking of playing it safe and looking for the perfect pink clock, nightlight or table shade to match your little girl’s very pink room, step out and go with animal print instead. You won’t have the headache of trying to make sure all the tones of pink match and as a bonus you will bring visual interest into the room.
Check out a few of the fun animal print products that RosenberryRooms.com has to offer: Area Rug, Nightlight , Diaper Bag, Picture Frame, Wooden Hanging Wall Letters, Chalkboard, Wall Clock. You can also choose a piece of art that incorporates animal print in the image or matting. Be sure to shop for all your kids room essentials at RosenberryRooms.com where you will find that perfect animal print décor that will take the room from mainstream to simply wild!

A common design dilemma for parents is how to incorporate your children’s favorite characters or themes into their rooms without letting it become an in-home section of Disney World. Typically the way most parents will deal with this is to either succumb to the bright colors and obnoxious designs or to just ignore it altogether. Either way the parents or child would lose out. And who doesn’t want their child to have a really fun room (especially if yours was boring as a child)? A recent personal experience along these lines has allowed me to overcome this all too common issue and find the happy medium that we as parents long for. First, to backtrack…
We just moved into our first house (YAY) and simultaneously transferred our 2-year-old daughter into her “big girl bed” to pass on the crib to her little sister. With all the horror stories thrown our way we were more than apprehensive, but it had to be done. So, we tapped into our daughter’s current obsession to help us out – Cinderella (“Cee-wella” as she would say). She is all girl and right now everyone’s favorite princess rules her world. So, of course her new bed would HAVE to be her “new-big-girl-Cinderella-princess-bed” for this to work. We talked about it with her for weeks to get her excited and took her to buy her princess sheets and pillow and as I type I have to say it went so much smoother than I thought. Every night she is actually excited to go to bed, she only wandered out of her room the first night and now she blissfully sleeps in her new bed (although I really think she just plays with her dolls all night)!
The best part of this is that when her bed is made no one would know that a secret fairytale world lies under the covers. See, we had to get her excited about the bed, but there was absolutely no way I was okay with having the very bright, very blue yellow and pink colors taking over one of the rooms in our awesome new home. Why should I have to have an eyesore visible from the hallway when every other part of our house is hip and cool?
So my solution? Simple really. We began by choosing a wall color that was a soft pink, so when we change out the bedding, the paint could stay. Next, we bought a delicate pink duvet and sham set which would work well on the antique white metal daybed. The gold accents on the daybed we painted soft pink (like the walls) so that everything was unified throughout the room. We chose chocolate window treatments (because of course brown and pink décor is great!) and the hardware has pearl white ball finials. Her bookshelf we painted antique white along with two wall shelves to match the daybed. The accent lamp is a chocolate base with a pale pink shade pulling both those colors of the room together. Then, we went all out with the sheets – a princess set that is full of bright colors and a pillowcase that even has life sized faces on it. Just imagine how happy she is laying her head upon Cinderella’s every night! She gets to uncover everything magical as she climbs into bed and we get to “hide” it during the day leaving a very feminine and chic room that works with the rest of our home.
